Anna Theresa (Lucchesi) Denisi passed away peacefully at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at West Woods of Niles Nursing Home, after sharing 92 wonderful and memorable years with family and friends. Her family is grateful for the care and compassion offered by the dedicated and loving staff of West Woods and Heartland Hospice.
She was born on Christmas Day 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Peter and Madeline (DaValle) Lucchesi. She graduated from Marshall High School, Chicago, Illinois; and has lived in Niles, Michigan since 1957.
Anna was a member of the Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles, Michigan. In 1972 Anna was one of the original founding members of the Four Flags Area Apple Festival, and a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She volunteered with The Center for Hospice Care in South Bend, Indiana and was an active member of the Niles-Buchanan YMCA where she enjoyed doing aerobics. Anna retired in 1995 as an Executive Secretary/Bookkeeper after 17 years with Falvey’s Store for Men and Women Clothing in Niles, Michigan. She and her husband, Carmen, traveled throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico, Israel, Europe and China. At home, she was an excellent Italian cook, and everyone looked forward to her lasagna and chicken cacciatore. She also enjoyed gardening, loved penguins, playing Dominos, puzzles and numerous card games. She was adored by her grandchildren, she loved them and all of her family.
On October 11, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, she married Carmen Denisi with whom she celebrated the remarkable Sixty-Eighth Anniversary of their wedding in 2015 prior to his death on July 12, 2016.
Surviving family includes her children, Peter (& Maryanne) Denisi of Granger, Indiana, Kathleen (& Bernard Schroeter) Denisi of Haslet, Michigan, and Laura (& Joe) Zweber of Middleton, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Raymond (& Melody) Kurtis, Ryan Denisi, Marc Denisi, Jakob Zweber, and Sienna Zweber; and nieces and nephews, Donald Albrecht, Rodney (& Debra) Feak, Glen (& Chris) Feak, Karen (& Ron) Root, Mary Ann (& Glenn) Groebli, and Robert (& Carole) Denisi.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Carmen Denisi; her parents and by her sister, Della Albrecht and her husband, Fred Albrecht; and Carmen’s sister, Rose Feak and her husband Don Feak, a brother, Frank Denisi and his wife Josephine.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Anna Denisi will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Noon on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles, Michigan by Reverend Christian Johnston of the parish, assisted by Deacon Roger Gregorski. Committal Rites will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Niles, Michigan.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles, Michigan with recitation of The Rosary at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until processional to the Mass at Saint Mary Catholic Church.
