Calvin Dennis Gough

Calvin Dennis Gough, age 60 years of Niles, Michigan died peacefully at 8:25 a.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 with his wife by his side at home following an extended illness.

He was born on October 16, 1957 in Watervliet, Michigan to Alfred R. and Alice J. (Roberts) Gough.  He was graduated from Dowagiac Union High School, and continued his education in trade school to become a Certified Welder.  He was employed for many years by McDermott International, Inc. erecting oil drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.  He also built airboats in Florida, and had been employed at Laylin Welding in Dowagiac.

Calvin studied Christianity for much of his life, including completing a correspondence course from Forgotten Man Ministries, and more recently following the daily televised Bible class of the Shepherd’s Chapel.  He enjoyed fishing in area lakes, and teaching the sport to his children and grandchildren.  He also enjoyed watching reruns of the “Daniel Boone” adventure television series every Sunday morning, just as he was doing when he died.

On December 1, 2004 in Ash Flat, Arkansas he married the former Mary Christina (Harrison) Simmons with whom he celebrated the thirteenth anniversary of their wedding.

Surviving family includes his wife, Christine; his son, Raymond Dennis (& Angelia) Gough of Sister Lakes, Michigan and grandchildren Aidan Sharrai, Christopher William Gough, and Daniel Hanson; Christine’s children, Phillip (& Amanda) Saulter of Booneville, Missouri, Lyle Simmons of Niles, and Christopher (& Amanda) Simmons of Searcy, Arkansas and grandchildren Keira Saulter, Harley Simmons, and Benji Simmons; and Dennis’ nephew, Michael Tyler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Raymond Gene Gough.

Services for Calvin Dennis Gough will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles with the Rev. Jeffrey Whittaker of Michiana Christian Embassy officiating.  The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at: www.halbritterwickens.com
