Constance Jean Charles

Constance Jean Charles of Niles Michigan, passed away the evening of April 23, 2026, with family by her side. She was “unstoppable” managing a prognosis of lymphoma when pneumonia suddenly set in at the age of 72.

Born September 14, 1953, Constance was the youngest of three daughters born to Susan and Robert Burkhart. She spent most of her life residing in South Bend, Indiana, close to her sisters, Patricia Mickelson and Karen Ott with husband Mike Ott and their children’s families: Jennifer and Dave Murphy, Stephanie Cook, Elizabeth and Shawn Richard, Michael and Michelle Horvath, and Michele Horvath Seymour and Ryan Andrews.

Her greatest accomplishment was being a mother full of joy and pride for her three children, Katharine “Katie” Charles, Daniel Charles, and Patrick Charles, daughters-in-law, Sarah Charles and Nadia Charles, and her eight grandchildren Jackson, Deirdre, Brennan, Clark, Finn, Henry, Addison, and Sophie. As well as caregiver to the children loved at her daycare.

Leading with her heart of gold, she built an interconnected web of friends, neighbors, and blended families. Teaching the essence of life which is love and connection.

Family and friends will gather for a Memorial Service Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. in Halbritter Wickens Funeral Services, 615 East Main Street, Niles.

Constance loved pink lilies if you would like to donate them to the funeral home in her memory. A bench will be placed in her honor in Charleston, South Carolina, a cherished place where she lived and worked for ten years with her daughter.
