Daniel Lee “Dan” Walter, 68, of Buchanan, died peacefully Wednesday, October 29, 2025 in the comfort of his family’s presence. His life began October 28, 1957 in South Bend, Indiana one of two children born to Sharon and Minnie Walter.
Dan embraced the love of his family. His children and grandchildren were absolutely the center of his world; his devotion to them was unmeasurable. Every moment spent with them was a treasure, filled with laughter, lessons, and the creation of memories that will be cherished for generations. He reveled in their accomplishments, offered unwavering support during challenges, and showered them with unconditional love. A proud veteran, Dan served in the Coast Guard, embodying the values of duty, honor, and commitment. His service forged a lifelong passion for the water and found immense joy in boating and being with nature. Beyond his family and military service, Dan was a man of vast knowledge, with a particular passion for anything mechanical. Whether it was working on vehicles, boats, or even lawn mowers, he shared his expertise and love for these pursuits with all who knew him.
Dan will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Heather (Richard Hall) Walter of Buchanan; son, Daniel Lee Walter II of Buchanan; mother of his children, Pat Walter of Stevensville; six grandchildren, Kaitlynne (Ryker), Zach, Brayden, Jade, Ember, Harley; one great grandchildren, Amelia; sister, Mildred (Joe) Baier of Paducah, Kentucky; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends will gather Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 noon in Halbritter Wickens Funeral Services, 615 East Main Street, Niles. Dan will be laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, where he will be accorded full Military Honors.
