Niles – Dena June (Schultz) Kennedy, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 17, 2017 in Woodland Terrace at Niles, following an extended illness.
Dena was born in Kennett, Missouri on October 8, 1931 to William and Ollie Schultz. On November 25, 1951 in Niles, she married Tom Kennedy, a union that lasted 65 years. Surviving Dena are her son, Kerry Kennedy; grandchildren, Kyle Kennedy, Karly (Alex) Welch; step-grandson, Sean (Tiffany) McLaughlin; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Maya McLaughlin. Preceding Dena in death were her parents; husband, Tom; stepfather, Earl Metcalf; and sisters, Billie Jackson and Wanda Metcalf.
Dena graduated from Bridgman High School and earned a degree from the South Bend College of Commerce. She spent most of her working life as a legal secretary, employed by the law offices of Harold Klute, and later, Robert Langraf. Dena was very involved in the lives of her son and grandchildren, she particularly enjoyed attending their sporting events. Dena also enjoyed bowling, bicycling, and collecting rare knick-knacks.
Visitation will be from 6-7:30pm on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 in HALBRITTER WICKENS FUNERAL HOME 615 E. Main St., Niles. Family and friends may gather at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens at 10am on Thursday, July 20, 2017 for Committal Prayers.
