formerly of Chicago Heights, Illinois

Eleanor Ann Cull, age 78 years, formerly of Chicago Heights, Illinois; mother, grandmother, sister, home cook, roller-skater, and professional secretary died peacefully at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at West Woods of Niles, Michigan following a brief illness.

She was born October 11, 1945 to Casimir (Charles) and Eleanor (Charnes) Urewicz-Szimakowski in Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Chuck Urewicz.

Surviving family include her children, Michael Cull (Gina Wandell) of Adrian, Michigan and Kathleen (Harry) Waterous of Woodridge, Illinois; grandchildren Kylee Cull  and  Ulysses Cull,

and great-granddaughter Araya; and her  brother, Lawrence Urewicz of Mesa, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.

“Nori” graduated grammar school from St. Agnes in 1959, and high school from Marion Catholic High School in 1963.  She continued her education at Prairie State Community College in Chicago Heights and began her career as a secretary at the Chicago bureau office of Time Magazine.   Nori also worked in the computer services office of Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School until her retirement in 2005.

Nori married Thomas Terre Cull on January 8, 1977 in Chicago Heights, and they celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary prior to his death on December 11, 2018.

At home, Nori was a great cook, maintaining an inviting kitchen all year, but was best remembered for her Thanksgiving feasts.  She was also a talented seamstress; creating and tailoring clothing for her family, including Halloween costumes for the kids.  She enjoyed flower arranging, and when younger found time to go to the roller-skating rink six days each week.

She was always involved in Cull’s Tree Nursery in Olympia Fields, Illinois, supporting the family business in the office and outside with spring flowers, Christmas trees, wreaths and her specialty ribbon bows.

The family enjoyed their summer home near Irons, Michigan and Nori and her husband Tom retired there in 2005. As her health declined, she moved to Woodridge IL in 2018 and then Niles MI in 2021 to be closer to family.

The Memorial Mass for Eleanor Cull will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. (Chicago time) on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Our Lady of the Heights Catholic Church (St. Agnes), 1501 Chicago Road, Chicago Heights, Illinois 60411 by the Rev. Gary Graf of the parish.

Committal Rites will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Irons at a later date.  Arrangements were completed at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles.  Online condolences and memories may be left at:

Nori completely enjoyed life, going to college, roller-skating, cooking, and working at the family nursery. Her kind spirit and sense of humor were shared with so many people; fellow students and skaters, journalists, teachers and a home and kitchen filled with family and friends. Nori was the embodiment of God’s command to love Him and love one another.

She will be dearly missed.
