Evelyn L. Bolton, age 98 years of Niles, Michigan died at 9:03 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana following an extended illness.

She was born on June 15, 1918 in Buchanan, Michigan to Edward Frank and Mabel Melinda (Montgomery) Dolph. She was graduated from Buchanan High School in 1936, and continued her education at Southwestern Michigan College. She was formerly employed at the former Hunziker’s Nursery in Niles, and at the former Buchanan offices of Clark Equipment Company. She was employed for many years in the Vocal Music department of Niles High School as an Instructional Assistant and Costumer, where she helped and advised many students in life issues, earning her the nickname of “Mom Bolton” to hundreds of students. She also worked as the office manager for her husband’s business, AdPrint Company in Niles for 20 years, and later ran the business after his death in 1981.

Evelyn was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles where she taught Sunday School, sang in the Choir, and participated with the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Business & Professional Women, and the Niles Service League. As a mother of three boys, she volunteered as Cub Scout Den Mother for 16 years. She golfed in the leagues at Orchard Hills and Plym Park, and enjoyed reading, completing crossword puzzles, and watching televised music performances. She was a fan of the – now World Series Champions – Chicago Cubs, and of the Christian vocalist and comedian, Mark Lowry.

She was first married to Sergeant Victor Leland Hartline, U.S.Army who died in battle in Luxembourg on January 21, 1945. On February 14, 1946 in Niles she married Charles Edward Bolton with whom she celebrated the thirty-fourth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on January 5, 1981. She was also preceded in death by grandsons Victor Hartline II and Charles “Jay” Bolton III; and by her siblings, Harold, Forrest, and Carlton Geary, Agnes Tuesley, Dorathy Naas, and Jessie Cooper.

Surviving family includes her children, Ronald Hartline of Buchanan, Charles E. (& Teri) Jasper Bolton of Fence Lake, New Mexico, Lawrence (& Janice) Bolton of Battle Creek, Michigan, Kristin (& Jerry) Hornburg of Osceola, Indiana, and Brenda (& John) Engel of Niles; grandchildren Eva (Mrs. Victor) Hartline, Cyinthia (& Luke) Fannon, Brian (& Jen) Hartline, Brent Hartline, Toni Elizabeth (& J.D.) McCarley, David (& Caroline) Hornburg, and Jessica (& Kevin) Chupp; great-grandchildren Victor III, Olivia, Dylan, Hannah, Tyler, Brandon, Tia, Jonathon, J.T., and Paul; a great-great-grandchild, Victor Jaxon, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Evelyn Bolton will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles with the Rev. Cathi Huvaere of the church officiating. Committal will follow at Mission Hills

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Evelyn may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church, 302 Cedar Street, Niles, Michigan 49120.
