Francis Jerome “Jerry” Lewandowski, age 65 years of South Bend, Indiana died peacefully at 8:08 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at his home following an illness.
He was born on October 22, 1951 in South Bend to Zygmond and Helen Marie (Stefanski) Lewandowski. He attended Holy Cross Elementary School, and was graduated from South Bend LaSalle High School. He had also attended classes at the University of Notre Dame. He was first employed at the Bendix Corporation, and then began a thirty-year career at the South Bend Medical Foundation.
Jerry enjoyed the fellowship of euchre games with friends, and fishing on the river in Mishawaka. He followed all of the athletic teams at the Notre Dame, and was a great fan of NASCAR. He loved his pet dogs, most recently, “Bear”; but had many family members and special friends who were also loved.
He was first married to Sue Ellen Tomaszewski, and later to Janice (Stanley) Shepard. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Thomas Lewandowski.
Surviving family includes his children, Bonita M. Lewandowski of South Bend, Richard D. Lewandowski of California, and Jeremy Bell Lewandowski of Mountain Home, Arkansas; grandchildren Haley Lorene Lewandowski, Nickolas Alan Lewandowski, Deena Anne Lewandowski, Douglas Michael Lewandowski, Brayden Lewandowski, Brylee Lewandowski, and Skylar J. Cowden; Jerry’s brother, Eugene Lewandowski of Leo, Indiana, several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Tammy Lockhart, and other friends, Daisy, Robin, and Norm who helped provide his care.
The family of Jerry Lewandowski will gather privately to share memories and honor his life. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles.
