Irene Lue

July 22, 1925 — November 18, 2012

Irene Elizabeth Van Lue, age 87 years of Huntly Road in Niles, Michigan died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Riveridge Manor in Niles following a brief illness.

She was born on July 22, 1925 in Vandalia, Michigan to Herman and Rieta (Loux) Freese. She was graduated from Niles High School in 1942, and lived here most of her life.

As a young lady, Irene was employed in a local dentist office. She then was employed by the Niles Community Schools as a secretary at Howard School, retiring in 1986 after serving 27 years.

Irene enjoyed caring for her family, especially cooking, sewing clothing, and quilting.

On September 20, 1947 in Niles she married Loren “Joe” Van Lue with whom she celebrated the sixty-fifth anniversary of their wedding this year.

Surviving family includes her husband, Joe Van Lue; their daughters, Susan (& Jim) Cook of Niles, and twins, Jackie McIntosh and Judy (& Ed) Mullis, both of South Bend, Indiana; a grandson, Andrew (& Julie) Cook, and great-grandchild, Logan Cook.

A private ceremony will be held at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Irene may be made to Hospice at Home.
