Jean Murphy

March 6, 1920 — June 25, 2020

Jean E. Murphy, 100 formally of Niles, passed away on June 25, 2020 in the Timbers of Cass County.

Jean was born on March 6, 1920 in Detroit to the late Elwood and Bertine (Rogers) Comfort. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Ned and  Bruce Comfort

On October 10, 1941 in Albion, Michigan she married Rev. Lloyd J Murphy who passed away in 2008.

Jean is survived by her son Stephen (Joanie) Murphy of Cassopolis, Michigan and Grandchildren; Ryan (Danielle) Murphy and Katie (Dustin) Kessler, Great Grandchildren; Ava, Brooklyn, Scarlett and Brinley. She is also survived by her sister Carol Langley of Pasadena, CA.

One of Jean’s greatest joys was starting Bible Studies and building into other people’s lives.  Jean loved being a Pastor’s wife and assisting her husband Lloyd however she could.  Out of her neighborhood Bible study in Petoskey, MI, Winsome Women began.  The initial Bible class started in 1970 and from this small home study group came Winsome Women retreats that are still functioning at present.  Currently, Winsome Women has spring and fall retreats on Mackinaw Island with over several thousand ladies in attendance.  From the age of 17 on, serving Jesus was the most important thing in Jean’s life.  She was a prayer warrior and looked forward to meeting her Savior in Heaven along with seeing Lloyd and the rest of her family.

In keeping with Jean’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held on July 15, 2020 at Calvary Bible Church 27032 Marcellus Hwy. Dowagiac.  A celebration of life will begin at 3:00 pm on the church grounds.
