Sir John Robert Stockwell, 81, of Niles, died peacefully Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in the comfort of his family’s presence.
His life began November 20, 1943, in Paw Paw, Michigan, the first of two children born to M.H. and Betty Stockwell. He married Diana Trieber June 21, 1969, in Niles, Michigan. After more than fifty-five years of marriage, she preceded him in death in 2024.
Sir John was a proud 32 nd Degree Mason and a member of the Penninsular Lodge #10 F&AM of Dowagiac. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts and Moose Lodge 978 in Niles. John loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids grow up and was very active in their sporting events. John, his wife and children travelled all across the country while exploring and making great memories as a family. He was a member of the Seabees during his military time and served as a carpenter both in and after the service.
John will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by one son, Perry (Sarah) Stockwell of Beaverton, Oregon; one daughter, Annette (David) Miller of Niles; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, David (Lois) Stockwell of Three Oaks; one niece; and one nephew.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends will gather Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12 Noon in Halbritter Wickens Funeral Services, 615 East Main Street, Niles with Masonic Rites rendered by the Penninsular Lodge #10 F&A.M.
John will be laid to rest in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Sumnerville.
The family prefers contributions in memory of John be made to the Peninsular Lodge #10 F&AM, 121 South Front Street Dowagiac, Michigan 49047.
