Kathlyn Ann Butus, 97, of Niles, died peacefully July 5, 2025, in the comfort of her family’s presence. Her life began March 2, 1928 in Kalamazoo, Michigan the second born of two, born to Martin and Anna Van Haften. She married Peter H. Butus on December 15, 1950 he preceded her in death.
Lyn graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Education. She was an avid gardener and the state president of the Michigan Garden Clubs. She took joy in putting together flower arrangements. Lyn was on the board of directors for the Stanley Clark School where her children and grandchildren attended. She loved to travel, especially spending summer time in Southwest Colorado, where the family had saw mills. She could often be found on the road visiting the many sites in Michigan and spending time in Europe.
Lyn will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by
one daughter, Julie Ann Butus; four grandchildren, MacAllister Bishop (Vassana) Griffiths, Cassandra (George “Bert”) Berry, Laura (Zachary) Fashbaugh, Jillian Butus; three great grandchildren, MacAllister Bishop Griffiths II, Miles Keith Griffiths, Mackenzie Mia Griffiths; brother, Carl Van Haften and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter H. Butus, son, Keith Edward Butus and her parents.
The family will observe a private remembrance.
