Laurie Ruth Farris, 61, of Granger, Indiana; wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 with her family gathered around her bedside at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana.

She was born on February 5, 1962 in Niles, Michigan to Willis S.D. and Loretta (Hemphill) Grady, and graduated with the class of 1980 from Niles High School. She continued her education at Davenport College in Granger earning an Associate Degree of Applied Science. She was employed in the office of the medical clinics of Dr. Arnold del Pilar, and Dr. Lawrence Curry.

As a teenager, Laurie worked as a candy striper at Pawating Hospital in Niles, Michigan where she met her husband who worked in the pharmacy at the hospital.

On January 2, 1982 in Edwardsburg, Michigan she married James H. Farris, with whom she celebrated earlier this month the forty-second anniversary of their wedding. She has lived in the Michiana area most of her life. For two years she lived in Maryland with her husband during his military service.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Elle Farris; by her parents, Willis Grady and Loretta Mattocks; by her grandparents William and Evelyn Moneysmith; and by her brother-in-law, Dave Witham.

Laurie is survived by her husband, James Farris, their four children, and seven grandchildren, Jessica Farris of Indianapolis, Indiana, Heather Farris (John Danaher) of Osceola, Indiana and their children Aiden, Everett, Patrick, and Sean Danaher, Nathan (Amanda) Farris of Mishawaka, Indiana and their children Colton and Madison Farris, and Petty Officer Zachary Farris U.S. Navy and his child, Jordyn Manis; her two siblings, Rhonda Witham of Niles and Pamela (Michael) Malisa of Niles, and several nieces.

Laurie loved and cared for all who were blessed to know her. She devoted her life to family, especially her children and grandchildren. Being a mother and grandparent brought her so much joy, happiness, and love to her life.

The family of Laurie Farris will be offering a time to share memories and honor her life at Noon on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the First Church of Christ - Christian, 2240 Yankee Street in Niles.
