Lou Ann DeVall

Lou Ann (Hart) DeVall passed away on February 6, 2026, surrounded by family at home.

Lou Ann was born on December 7, 1939, the youngest of five children born to Dr. Russell Hart and Frances Hart. She is survived by her brother Wayne Hart and sister-in-law Jean Anne Hart, her sister-in-law Marie Miller, and her late husband’s twin sister, Carol (Charlie) Shockley, who was deeply loved by Lou Ann as a sister. Lou Ann always looked forward to their yearly visits. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply and held fond memories of throughout her life.

Lou Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Charles DeVall; her parents, Dr. Russell and Frances Hart; her brothers, Bruce Hart and Dick Hart; her sister, Jean Spranger; and her sisters-in-law, Imogene Hart, Betty Kraus, and Pat Hart.

Lou Ann met her late husband, Charles, while still in high school. They were married on May 7, 1960, and together built a life centered on family. Together they had four daughters: Lori (Brian) Coyne, Susan (Mike) Johnson, Melanie (Scott) Sporner, and Nicole (Roger) Carter. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren: Brennan (Tiffani) Coyne, Katie Coyne, Korrin Johnson, Ethan Johnson, Luke Johnson, Becca Norman, and Charlize Kempton. She was so proud of each of them and never stopped mothering every member of her family.

Lou Ann was most proud of her daughters and would tell anyone who would listen just how blessed she was to have them care for her. She valued her family deeply, but also cherished her friendships, especially Bonnie Huffman, Linda Gourlay, and Fran Welling. She always lit up when talking to them or reminiscing about her time with them.

Lou Ann was an avid gardener, with the ability to walk through her yard and tell you both the common and scientific name of every flower she tenderly raised. She enjoyed playing Bridge and looked forward to her time of fellowship with her Bridge Ladies. She also was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi for 60 years. Her sorority sisters loved and supported her through all of life’s journey, and she loved them deeply in return.

The family would like to thank Corewell Hospice at Home for their tender care of Lou Ann over the past year, especially her team, Tami and Lisa. Lou Ann always enjoyed the weekly visits and laughter. Nicole would especially like to thank Tami for the love and care she showed Lou Ann. Her presence and compassion were felt during the most important time and will never be forgotten.

Visitation for Lou Ann will be held at Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home on Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Halbritter Wickens on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with one hour prior for gathering. Her services will be followed by a graveside prayer at Mission Hills Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lou Ann’s memory to the American Diabetes Association or Corewell Hospice at Home.
