Biography

 Miss Ruth Lucy Gutschenritter, age 95 years of Niles, Michigan died at 11:35 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Riveridge Manor following a brief illness.

She was born on September 17, 1921 in Hartford, Wisconsin to Arthur J. and Elizabeth M. (Burelbach) Gutschenritter. She was graduated from Niles High School, and has lived in Niles most of her life. As a young lady, she was employed for several years as a switchboard operator for the former Michigan Bell Telephone Company.

Ruth was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles where she rarely missed a Mass or other event. For many years she was a dedicated home health caregiver for her father. She could often be seen walking to church, to grocery stores, or other errands, and was a friend to all whom she met.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Gutschenritter in 1924 and by her father, Arthur (& Delia) Gutschenritter; and by a brother, Lawrence Gutschenritter.

Surviving family includes her sister, Alice Kass of Grand Rapids, Michigan and brother, Victor Gutschenritter of Niles; and many nieces and nephews of several generations.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth Gutschenritter will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Saint Mary Catholic Church by the Rev. Christian Johnston of the parish. Committal Rights will be read on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. (Eastern Time; Noon local time) at Saint Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin by the Deacon Ed Cody of Saint Katharine Drexel Parish in Beaver Dam.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles, with recitation of The Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Miss Gutschenritter may be made to Saint Mary Catholic Church, or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
