Phyllis Smith

October 21, 1930 — February 18, 2018

Phyllis Jean Smith, 87, of Niles, passed away in Memorial Hospital South Bend after a brief illness.

Phyllis was born on October 21, 1930 in Niles to the late Fred and Mary Kocher.

On March 5, 1949 in Niles, she married Jack J. Smith who survives.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Jacob Smith and her sisters Margaret “Mickie” Schwark, Dorothy Stone, Ruth Fletcher and her brother Fred “Buddy” Kocher.

Surviving Phyllis are her husband Jack, their children; Mary Adams of Niles, Jack (Deborah) Smith of Buchanan, Michael (Stephen) Smith of Coraopolis, PA, Tracey (Debra) Smith of Niles. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; and her sister, Donna (Bill) Rhodes of Niles.

Phyllis enjoyed counted cross stitch and quilting. She enjoyed camping in the Fifth-wheel. More than anything, she loved being a grandparent.

Visitation for Phyllis will be on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 10am to noon at Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St. Niles. A funeral service will begin at 12 noon followed by burial in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, Phyllis asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
