Richard Finn

August 23, 1931 — May 25, 2013

Richard “Dick” C. Finn, age 81 years, of Niles, Michigan went home to Jesus on Saturday, May 25, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dick loved to sing and his family and friends take comfort knowing that he is singing with the angels.

Dick was born August 23, 1931 in Lakeville, Indiana to Ernest and Ruth (Price) Finn. He grew up in Niles with his brother Robert Finn of South Bend, who survives, and his sisters; the late Betty Neal and Beverly Baker.

Dick was a Korean Conflict Veteran, proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was pleased to graduate from Brandywine High School before his children.

On September 11, 1951, Dick married Betty M. Shaffer, who survives.

Dick retired from the Elkhart Truth Newspaper in 1993. He volunteered at the World Missionary Press and worked with Stamp Out Hunger.

In addition to his wife Betty of Niles, survivors include children Becky Finn of Niles and Rob & Ronda Finn of Spring Lake, Michigan, grandchildren; Kym & Shawn Reese, Jessica & Shane Bloomberg, Lee & Nicole Ashcraft, Jacqueline & Jeremy Sandison, Jennifer & David Mann, Jordan Finn and fiancée Elsbeth MacGirr and 8 great grandchildren; Kailyn, Kristopher "Topher", Gabriella, Jenna, McKinley, Jude, Lexie & Owen.

Dick was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in South Bend, where there will be a celebration of his life on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 11:00a.m. with visitation one hour before at the church. Burial will be at Truitt Chapel Bertrand Cemetery, Niles and will conclude with Full Military Honors by the United States Marine Honor Guard and American Legion Post #51 of Buchanan, Michigan.

Friends may also visit with the family from 6-8:00p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.

Memorial contributions in memory of Dick may be made to the World Missionary Press of Hospice at Home.
