Scott Shearer

Scott J. Shearer, age 50 years of Niles, Michigan died at 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Riveridge Manor in Niles following a brief illness.

He was born on May 8, 1962 in Niles to James Eugene Shearer and Shirley Ann (Ingleright) Shearer. He was graduated from the Blossomland Learning Center, and was employed for many years at Gateway Industries in Berrien Springs, Michigan. He has lived in Niles all of his life.

Scott loved life, and was always eager to share that love of life as he made new friends. He enjoyed sports, especially the University of Notre Dame football team, and was thrilled when his Uncle Denny took him to a home game. Scott was also a fan of the Chicago Bears football team and Chicago Cubs baseball team.

He also enjoyed participating in sports as a bowler, winning trophies, and as a Special Olympics swimmer winning medals at both the local level and the state competition. He always looked forward to meeting the medal presenters, who were usually attractive, and was proud to have a photograph of his meeting Miss Michigan at the State Special Olympics.

Surviving family includes his mother, Shirley Shearer and his father, James Shearer, both of Niles; a sister, Kim (& Kevin) Shelton, an uncle, Dennis Ingleright, and nephew, James Nichols, and many cousins.

The funeral service for Scott Shearer will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Randy Pearman of Bethel Baptist Church in Niles officiating. Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.

Scott will be missed by family and all who got to know him.
