Sharon J. Grahl

June 9, 1940 — March 10, 2024

Niles

Sharon Jane Grahl, 83, passed away at Cass County Medical Facility on March 10, 2024, where she was being cared for.

Sharon was born on June 9, 1940, in Goshen, Indiana, to the late Glenn I. and Dolly (Vance) Martin.

Sharon retired in 2002 from Niles School System after 32 years where she was responsible for the audio-visual systems and equipment for all the schools. When not working, and after retirement she enjoyed working in her yard at home with all her plants, flowers, bushes, and statues. Sharon was a huge dog lover; all her neighbors would have Sharon dog sit whenever they needed to go away. Like her family, she was an avid sports fan, Sharon was a diehard fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. When Sharon married her husband, Leo Grahl, he was a Michigan Wolverine fan, but Sharon converted him to a Notre Dame fan, and he went to work at Notre Dame until his passing. When Sharon was still able to enjoy travel, she would make a couple of trips a year to Northwest Arkansas to see her son and his wife and family.

Along with her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Leo W. Grahl of Niles; one son, Keith Papczynski of Niles; two sisters Judy M. Martin and Barbara V. Dials of South Bend; two nephews, Rodney Dials and Ryan Dials; one brother-in-law, James Dials of South Bend; and one stepson Ronnie Grahl of South Bend. Sharon is survived by one son, Joseph (Linda) Papczynski of Lowell, Arkansas;  two sisters Robin J. (Jeffrey) Harroff of South Bend; and Glenda L. Klemczewski of Mishawaka; one step-son Scott Grahl; six nieces and nephews, Ronald (Pamela) Dials, Rhonda Sue (Robert) Weisjahn, Amy Jo Gnott, Jennifer (Michael) Smith, Justin Harroff, and Kenneth Minton; two grandchildren Cory J. Papczynski of Lowell, Arkansas, and Jamie Jo Lawrence of West Fork, Arkansas; two great-grandchildren, Lily and Mayson Lawrence of West Fork, Arkansas; and a host of great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to thank Cass County Medical Care Facility staff for the great care they provided.

Family and friends will gather Friday, March 15, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to honor and celebrate Sharon’s life in Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Services, 615 East Main Street, Niles.  We will then process to Mission Hills Memorial Gardens for a brief service to lay Sharon to rest.
