Alexander Wells

December 1, 1985 — September 12, 2021

Alexander Steven Wells, age 35 years of Dowagiac, Michigan, husband, father, son, brother, truck driver, and golfer died peacefully at 7:50 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2021 with his family gathered around his bedside at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan following an eleven month battle against cancer.  His family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided by the hospice staff.

He was born on December 1, 1985 in Berrien Center, Michigan to Steven and Tammy (Faulkner) Wells and attended Lakeshore Schools.  He has lived in this area all of his life, except for a few years in Tennessee.  He has been a professional truck driver, both local deliveries and over-the-road, employed at Clark Logic in Portage, Michigan.

Alex enjoyed playing golf, usually at Brookwood Golf Course in Buchanan, Michigan.  He has always had an eclectic taste in music, and when younger attended concerts of some of the most popular hard rock bands.  More recently he appreciated social media, posting and sharing on Facebook opinions which were less eclectic, and more to the point.  But his greatest joy was his family.

On December 31, 2013 in Nashville he married the former Morgan A. Whitaker with whom he celebrated last December the seventh anniversary of their wedding.

Surviving family includes his wife, Morgan Wells and their children, Danielle Wells, Gage Wells, and Ava Wells; Alex’s mother, Tammy Blankenship of Michigan City, Indiana; his siblings, Justin (& Amiee) Wells of Baroda, Michigan, Brittany (& David) Jessurun of Winchester, Virginia, Heather Wells of Columbia, Tennessee, Katie Hamilton of Battle Creek, Michigan, Sarah Jones of Houston, Texas, and step-siblings Jason and Misty Blankenship; Morgan’s parents, Marshall Whitaker and Tami Whitaker, both of Niles; Morgan’s siblings, Chase Whitaker and Shelby Whitaker; and many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Steven Wells.

The memorial service for Alex Wells will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles with Alex’s sister, Brittany leading a time of shared memories honoring his life.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday at the funeral home beginning at 6:00 p.m.  The service will be livestreamed on the Halbritter-Wickens Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/halbritterwickensfuneralservices/ .

An online fund has been established to help care for Alex’s children and his wife.  That fund may be accessed at: https://www.facebook.com/donate/987313205391590/ .  Online condolences may be left at:

Alex’s life included interesting contrasts from the challenges of truck driving to the relaxation of the golf course, and from an appreciation for a variety of music to a more focused internet presence.  But more important than all of that was his love for his family, especially Morgan and their kids.
