Catherine Archer

March 12, 1956 — November 21, 2022

Niles, Michigan

Catherine Rose Archer, age 66 years of Niles, Michigan, mother, grandmother, sister, champion pool player and joke teller died peacefully at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2022 with her family gathered around at her home following an extended illness.  Her family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided by the staff of Caring Circle Hospice at Home.

She was born on March 12, 1956 in Niles to Alfred E. and Rosalee (Carpenter) Archer, Jr., and lived in the Owens Road neighborhood most of her life.  She was graduated from Brandywine High School, and continued her education at Southwestern Michigan College, earning both her CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and HHA (Home Health Aide).  She was employed by Memorial Home Care in South Bend, and by a South Bend hospice.  She also served as a private duty home health aide.

Cathy was a member of the Bethel Tabernacle on Ironwood Drive and had also attended the new Times of Refreshing Apostolic Church on Yankee Street.  She was an avid and proficient pool player, winning tournaments sanctioned by the American Poolplayers Association, and more recently has competed in the TAP amateur leagues.  She also enjoyed playing dominoes and various card games with a group of friends with whom she also enjoyed dining out at area restaurants.

Church, pool, cards, and dining all involve fellowship with others, and Cathy quite enjoyed those social functions, and always carried her share of the conversation.  She was a bit of a comedienne, always ready to add a joke – usually appropriate – although she had recently claimed that her memory was declining “to the size of a gnat.”  She was also a fan of the Green Bay Packers football team.

She was sadly preceded in death by a 23-year-old grandson, Uriah Scofield who tragically died in a bicycle accident on July 1, 2020.  She was also preceded in death by her father, Alfred Archer, Jr. on February 11, 1990.

Surviving family includes her children, Brandon Scofield of Mishawaka, Indiana, Adrianne (& Jason) McCrorey of Dowagiac, Michigan, René (& Bruce) Baughman of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and Johnny Baughman of Paw Paw, Michigan; grandchildren, Hannah, Andrew, Aiden, Genevieve, Gabriel, Brady, Bradley, Dakota, E.J., Xavier, Charisma, and Katie; great-grandchildren, Naomie and Kaylee; Cathy's mother, Rosalee Archer of Port Richie, Florida; Cathy’s sister, Diane (& Rick) Scott of Port Richie and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral service for Cathy Archer will be at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Bethel Tabernacle, 71378 Ironwood Drive in Niles, with Pastor Matthew J. Bair of the church officiating.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday at the church beginning at 2:00 p.m.  Arrangements were made at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles.

Those willing to honor Cathy’s memory by assisting the family with her final expenses may do so through a link on the funeral home’s webpage dedicated to Cathy, or by a telephone call to the funeral home (269-683-3000), or in-person at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at:

Cathy clearly enjoyed life, and enjoyed the people in her life, dedicating her vocation to helping folks to remain at home during health challenges, fellowshipping with friends around the pool table, the card table, and the dining table, and pursuing God through the fellowship of believers at church; all evidence of fulfilling the command to Love God and Love People.
