David Yoder

David Gideon Yoder, 78, of Dowagiac passed away at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, November 28, 2019.

Dave was born on March 5, 1941 in Cassopolis, MI to the late Gideon B. and Lula Marie (Robison) Yoder.

On August 19, 1960 in Niles, he married the former Betty Jane True who survives.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Beatrice Hodges, Helen Hodges, Lilly Kirkwood and Marie Hunsberger and a brother Leonard Yoder.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Jane Yoder and their children; Pamela J. (Rich) Hutchings of Niles, MI, David S. (Maria) Yoder of Holland, MI, grandchildren; Lacey (Loren Levi) Gustafson, Bryton (Jessica) Hutchings, Delaney Yoder and Darby Yoder, great grandchildren; Kinsley and Skylar Gustafson.  Dave is also survived by his sisters Florence Weatherley, Cathy Smith, Ruth Spangler and a brother; Raymond (Thelma) Yoder, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

For most of Dave’s life he was a truck driver and enjoyed being on the open road. Dave and Betty also owned D&B Food Mart in Pokagon, MI, for 14 years.

A man of deep faith, Dave touched the lives of many. He was the spiritual head of his family and prayed Psalms 91 over them daily. He loved the Lord and strived to be a faithful servant, always sharing his love for Jesus Christ with everyone.

Dave was a member of Real-Life Church and also attended Portage Road General Baptist Church, both in Niles.  He taught Sunday school for many years, was involved in a letter writing ministry to prisoners, and also wrote a monthly letter centered around scripture for family, friends and the Real Life Church of Niles.

Private services for David will be held at a later date.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St. Niles.

Memorial contributions can be made in David’s name to Real Life Church, Elara Caring Hospice or Portage Road General Baptist Church.
