Jeanne Schaefer

July 8, 1948 — July 22, 2022

Cassopolis, Michigan

Jeanne Marie Schaefer, age 74 years of Cassopolis, Michigan, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, devout Catholic, died peacefully at 7:28 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2022 with her family gathered around at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana.

She was born on July 8, 1948 in Sandusky, Michigan to John M. and Betty G. (Gerow) Brady, coming to Cassopolis with her family as a young child.  She graduated from Cassopolis High School, and continued her education at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant.  She was first employed at the family business, Brady’s Market, later worked in the food service industry, and finished her career in quality control at the Bosch plant in Saint Joseph, Michigan. She has lived in Cassopolis most of her life.

Jeanne was a member of Saint Ann Parish in Cassopolis.  She enjoyed snow skiing at Swiss Valley near Jones, Michigan and other slopes “up-north.”  She taught her sons how to downhill ski and they went on many winter adventures.  In the summertime, she found some of the same experiences on roller coasters and other rides at amusement parks, usually Cedar Point, the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World.”   At home, she was a great cook, and every dish from her kitchen was another excellent meal.  She also enjoyed reading, especially true crime mysteries.  But her greatest joy was sharing all of these activities with her family, and - above all – her grandchildren.

She was first married to Kenneth Wright, and later to Barry Wishin.  She was preceded in death by her parents and by two of her eight siblings, Sheila Brady and Robert Brady.

On June 26, 2001 in Las Vegas she married Leonard O. Schafer with whom she celebrated the twenty-first anniversary of their wedding.

Surviving family includes her husband, Lenny Schaefer; and her sons, Rob (& Tonya) Wright of Cassopolis and Nick Wishin of Saint Joseph; grandchildren Brady Wright and Michael Wright; and Jeanne’s siblings, Charles Brady of Cassopolis, Colleen Wenger of Grand Rapids, Jackson (& Shari) Brady of Edwardsburg, Marjorie (& Jerry) Lolmaugh of Niles, Danny (& Tammy) Brady of Cassopolis, and Michael Brady of Niles; and many, many nieces and nephews of several generations.

The family of Jeanne Schaefer is hosting a Memorial Mass which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church, 421 North Broadway in Cassopolis by the Rev. Pangiraj J. Nathan, MSFS of the parish.  Committal Rites will be private, at a later date in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Cassopolis.

The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Arrangements were completed at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles.  Online condolences may be left at:
