Kathleen Miller

November 14, 1922 — March 16, 2021

Kathleen Louise ‘Kay’ Miller, 98, formally of Niles, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 in Naples, Florida.

Kay was born on November 14, 1922 in Niles to the late Lewis and Catherine (Rohleder) Griffith.

On October 24, 1945 in Niles, she married Norman J. Miller who passed away on January 9, 2011. She is also preceded in death by her brother Murrel Griffith.

She is survived by her sons; Marc (Cindy) Miller of Ft. Meyers, FL and Neal (Linda) Miller of Newnan, GA., 6 grandchildren; Nathan, Russell, Ashleigh, Seth, Thaddeus, and Graham; 8 great-grandchildren Meiwanna, Griffin, Raelyn, Owen, Evangeline, Imogen, Lars, and Anders.

Kay had been a School Nurse for Edwardsburg schools for many years, retiring in 1984.  She was a member of First Christian Church in South Bend where she was a Deacon.  Kay also enjoyed her time with the Friday Book Club in Niles and the Monday Evening Club in Edwardsburg.  She was a member of the Cass County Audubon Society.

Milton Township’s Smith’s Chapel – built in 1840 - always interested Kay.  She volunteered time and effort to achieve appropriate recognition of its value.  In 1979 the State of Michigan Historical Marker Program registered Smith’s Chapel, and erected marker number 652 on the building in 1981.  On December 31, 1987 Smith’s Chapel was certified as a National Historic Place and entered on the National Register of the National Park Service, United States Department of the Interior.  Kay was rightfully proud of her participation in that project.

The memorial service for Kay will be held at a later date.   Arrangements were made at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles, Michigan.  Online condolences may be left at:
