She was born on December 6, 1928 in Takoma Park, Maryland to Richard F. and Ida E. (Tiney) Farley.  She was graduated from the Mount Vernon (Ohio) Academy, and continued her education at the former Emanuel Missionary College (now Andrews University) in Berrien Springs, Michigan.  She taught home economics for several years, and then was employed for many years as the manager of the bookstore at Kettering (Ohio) College of Medical Arts.  She lived in Ohio most of her life, coming to Niles in 2019.

Mabel was a longtime Adventist, and was currently a member of Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church.  As a young lady she was a talented and productive seamstress, creating clothing for her family.  She has always enjoyed cooking and baking, with family and guests always looking forward to her version of fresh, warm cinnamon rolls.  She enjoyed camping, and with her husband spent entire summers with their camper near Traverse City.  She loved her dog, Henry, but even moreso loved her family.

On June 27, 1950 in Lima, Ohio she married Eugene R. Cowling, Jr. with whom she celebrated the remarkable Sixty-eighth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on May 3, 2019.  She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Anna Belcher, William Farley, and Evelyn Conkell.

Surviving family includes her children, William (& Judy) Cowling of Fairmount, Indiana and Sue (& Doug) Fattic of Niles; grandchildren, Andrew (& Merve) Cowling and Christina (& Brent) Barker; great-grandson Wyatt Barker; and several nieces and nephews.

The family of Mabel Cowling will gather privately to share memories and honor her life.  Committal will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs.  Contributions in memory of Mrs. Cowling may be made to the Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1105 Grant Street, Niles, Michigan, 49120, https://nileswestside.org/ .
