Michael Jones

Michael Emil Jones, 62, of Niles, passed away peacefully at the University of Michigan Hospital on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 after a long, hard fought battle with heart disease.

Mike was born on December 14, 1960 in St. Joseph, MI to the late Elmer Emil and Mary Louise (Post) Jones.

On October 7, 1995, Mike married the former Kathleen Hardy in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dowagiac, MI.  Kathleen preceded Mike in death earlier this year on February 4, 2023.

Mike is survived by his siblings: Christopher (Christine) Jones of St. Joseph, MI, Diane (Philip) Neville of Birmingham, MI, Connie Jones of Lansing, MI and Gregory Jones of Kalamazoo, MI.  Mike is also survived by his mother-in-law, Julia Hardy, as well as numerous other in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Mike graduated from St. Joseph High School and attended Southwestern Michigan College where he studied Automotive Technology. Mike loved tinkering with cars and at one time purchased and souped up a Plymouth Fury, a former police car.  Until he became ill, Mike was a warehouse associate for Archway Marketing, a job he especially enjoyed.  Mike called himself a “die hard, life long Chicago Cubs fan” and he also enjoyed University of Michigan football.  Mike was involved in scouting most of his life and most recently was a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 579 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Niles. He was also a member of the parish.  Mike and Kathy enjoyed being with family and always made it a point to attend family reunions and holiday gatherings as well as traveling to Georgia to spend time with Kathy’s family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on day, Thursday May 11, 2023, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 219 S. State Street in Niles. The family will receive family and friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church.
