Robert Shely, Jr.

Robert Shely, Jr. 67, of Niles went to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly, yet surrounded by his wife and kids on Thursday October 15, 2020 in Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph.

Robert was born on July 30, 1953 in Kiskim Hungary.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Szucs, Sr. and his grandson Logan Jarman.

Robert is survived by his mother, Louisa Shely.

On September 22, 1983 he married Teresa Bean who survives.  He is also survived by their children; Leon (Claire) Shely of Mishawaka, Emilie Shely of Buchanan, Roby Shely of Berrien Springs, Lucy (Jason) Beavo of Buchanan, Ethan Shely of South Bend, Austin (Destiny Chapman) Shely of Dowagiac, Grandchildren; Austin, Gabrielle, Hannah, Dylan, Lydia, Christian, Gavin, Nathan, Tavyn, Mannix, Dylan and Aubrey, great grandchildren; Liam, Austyn and Skylar and his sister; Rachel Zabo as well as several nieces and nephews.

Robert honorably served in the U.S. Army for 10 years.  He loved being with his family and making people laugh.  Robert enjoyed target shooting and spending time with Teresa and going on drives with her.  Robert enjoyed riding his Harley. He will be remembered for the many business windows he painted during the holidays in Niles and Buchanan.  Robert loved studying Hungarian and Native American Culture.

In keeping with Robert’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 24 from 1:00 – 3:00pm at Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home 615 E. Main St. Niles. A memorial service will begin on Saturday October 24 at 3:00pm. Military honors will follow the service.
