Thomas Nowicki

January 27, 1955 — September 21, 2021

Thomas Edward Nowicki, age 66 years of Niles, Michigan, father, grandfather, brother, hard worker, fun partier, and devoted caregiver died peacefully at 1:10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at The Timbers of Cass County in Dowagiac, Michigan following a battle against cancer.

He was born on January 27, 1955 in Smith's Creek, Michigan to Edward T. and Helen F. (DeRush) Nowicki.  He was graduated from Marysville High School, and earned a Bachelor Degree from Ferris State University in Big Rapids.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving during peacetime, and was honorably discharged.  He came to Niles in 1980 to take employment in the research department at the former Niles plant of Tyler Refrigeration.  After the Tyler plant closed, he was employed at First Source Bank.

Tom was known as a hard worker, often taking-on a second job to provide for his family.  But when off-duty, he looked forward to dancing and performing karaoke, usually at the Ramada Inn across the state line.  He was also “all-in” for cars, starting his collection with cars powered by GM’s 350, including his ’72 Chevelle SS, but later adding a MOPAR powered 2012 Challenger RT.

His greatest interest was his family, for whom he would set everything else aside to provide care as needed.  This was especially evident as he cared for his daughter, Lindsey Renée Nowicki through her final illness.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lindsey on February 28, 2014, and by his parents, Ed and Helen Nowicki.

Surviving family includes his son, Kevin James Nowicki of Niles; grandchildren Talon James Nowicki and Trey Edward Nowicki; and Tom’s brother, David (& Gert) Nowicki of Smith’s Creek, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Thomas Nowicki will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles with the Rev. Sheryl Blake of Hope Community Church in Niles officiating.  Committal will follow at the Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles. The visitation and funeral will be livestreamed on the Halbritter-Wickens Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/halbritterwickensfuneralservices/ .

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday at the funeral home beginning at Noon.  Contributions in memory of Tom Nowicki may be made to the American Cancer Society – Michigan at Post Office Box 10069, Detroit, Michigan, 48201, https://www.cancer.org/about-us/local/michigan.html .  Online condolences may be left at:

Tom enjoyed life, doing everything with enthusiasm including his job, but also partying at the Ramada Inn, and adding performance modifications to his cars.  Even when his devotion for his family included being a caregiver for his daughter, he still showed that passion for life with a ready smile and shared laughter.
